Hannah Simpson
Greetings fellow soul trekkers, Hannah Lynn here!
SOUL TREKKING was born during my years traveling abroad. The story of a young girl finding herself by walking with the wind.
My life began in the valley of sweet sweet southern Oregon, here my love and connection to nature began to grow its roots. As a child, my father exposed me to the many outdoor activities one can play with. I remember sailing with him, rock climbing, trekking up mountains, camping trips that usually involved pine cone wars amongst the trees, going on bike rides, swinging rope swings and floating down rivers. Little did I know I was cultivating a relationship with the many spirits around me, water, fire, soil, plants, animals, all whom have given me guidance along this soul trek, and I just had to listen to their whispers. My mom had planted so many seeds of light within me, she introduced me to the spiritual side of life, as well as artistic expressions. I am very thankful for my parents whom I wouldn’t be here without. Now I may be getting a bit of track here.. but hey this is a story of a girl's trek homeward and let me say its been quite a journey so far.
The intention woven through these creations is about expressing a new visual language - a language that may transcend the inherent contradiction of seeing what cannot be seen, and express in visual form, the diverse vails beyond our shared perceptions.
This is a humbling attempt to bear testimony to those mind-altering, soul-shattering yet potentially enlightening experiences which may transpire over the course of each creative experiment. The aim of these experiments is to bring alternative states of consciousness to reality. Or rather, to bear witness to other realities which are made evident in alternative states of consciousness.
Hence, the images, colors, reflections, modes of perceiving and indeed the insights which I have been open to witnessing through dreams, trance, revelation, mediumistic, and meditative states are what I seeks to reproduce in a tangible medium, so as to give it a more or less permanent reality 'here', in the world of our shared perceptions and spoken dialogues.
I do not seek these images for my own sake, rather, the images arise during this life-long journey honoring the Sacred, an expression of exploring a higher realm, the realm of spirit. The soul trek within. The essence of divinity presents itself as the hidden yet solitary source of everything. This is an exploration of our shared oneness, difficult to describe, so may it speak through image.
I receive inspiration through observing altered states of consciousness like, dreams, meditation, momentary inspirations, as well as during the creative process. While creating, the piece reveals itself moment by moment, beginning, middle, and end, new perspectives arise within each visitation. Drawing forth from the depths of unconscious, giving the image form with the aid of imagination - pushing the harmonious relation of line, shape, color, values and even combining elements in strange unexpected ways is simply put - a fun thing to do.
